Wenger: Arsenal will keep Robin van Persie

Roberto Mancini recently declared Manchester City’s interest in Robin van Persie, but Arsene Wenger was quick to dismiss any notion that the Dutchman is unsettled at the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas did another interview about Arsenal and Jens Lehmann could join the Gunners’ coaching staff.

Robin van Persie’s contract does not expire until the end of next season, though that has not stopped a constant firestorm of rumours erupting surrounding his future. Arsene Wenger left no room for misinterpretation when he said: “We will not lose anybody to Manchester City, or to anybody else, because we want to keep our players. We want to keep Robin van Persie, that is clear; we will do everything possible to extend his contract, that is clear and, apart from that, I can only let people talk.

“I don’t mind [what Mancini said on Wednesday]. I read what Mancini said. It’s not so bad. At our level, we are professional people. I believe if you are to have one quality, it is not to be unsettled because what is said of you by other clubs is part of the job. I would just like to specify that Robin is not at the end of his contract. He is under contract until 2013.” (Source: The Guardian)

Wenger made similar comments about Samir Na$ri and Cesc Fabregas only days before both players left. However, the manager explained that he will handle van Persie’s situation differently:

“I was very adamant [over Nasri at the time] but at the end of the day, it was a difficult situation to manage. We had the players and we felt after the pre-season tour that [Aaron] Ramsey and [Jack] Wilshere could work in midfield and we could add somebody more, and if a player didn’t want to extend, where do we go from there … but we’ll see. We do our best to keep our best players.” (Source: The Guardian)

Others think that Arsenal will sign Lukas Podolski to replace the Dutchman, but Wenger made it clear that “our plan is to keep van Persie, even if we buy any player.”

Unfortunately, Wenger has a habit of making wide-ranging (and sometimes ridiculous) statements during his press conferences. Last summer, right before Na$ri and Cesc left, Arsene (incorrectly) said that there would be no players leaving North London during that transfer window, and the comments he made on Friday seem eerily similar. Many Arsenal supporters are already tired of transfer sagas, but it does appear that the Robin van Persie edition will only continue to heat up from here.

Cesc Fabregas talked about Arsenal again, this time in an exclusive interview with The Guardian. He spent plenty of time speaking about his dream-come-true in the Camp Nou, but he mentioned our club quite a bit as well.  About the recent struggles of Arsene Wenger, Cesc said: “Whatever he suffered I suffered it as well. We feel the same and we always try our best. The boss is very strong and he believes in the club so much I am sure he will find a means to bring Arsenal back to where it belongs. I have no doubt because he’s a great man. He knows when he is wrong and when he is right. He will find a way – for sure.”

The whole part about Fabregas “suffering” is odd, because for most of the interview he explains how it is has been heaven to play alongside Messi and Xavi. He talks about how he loves the drive and ambition the Barcelona players possess and how he adores training with Pep Guardiola everyday. It’s all a bit sickening really. Cesc was a terrific player for us, and it was a joy watching him play, but perhaps he should close his mouth about our club. Or at the very least, stop accepting interviews about Arsenal once every two weeks.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have a coaching position waiting for Jens Lehmann once the former keeper receives the correct paperwork from UEFA. It is expected that Lehmann will complete his training with the Welsh FA and take the job as a coach for the Arsenal Reserves. However, the German Federation has a problem with Lehmann leaving for Great Britain after beginning his coaching training in Germany. In fact, he is currently in a row with the German Federation over this issue. Intrigue is always present in the life of Jens Lehmann!

Cesc Fabregas talks about Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas was quoted by a magazine saying that Arsenal have little chance of winning a major trophy in the “near future.” He later denied the comments on Twitter. Cesc also opened the door for a possible return to the Emirates some day.

Fabregas allegedly said this to Sport magazine in Spain: “I want to be at a club that is able to win the big titles year after year and I don’t see that kind of future for Arsenal. I fear that they won’t be able to push the other big clubs in England away.

“If you look at the team this season I can’t see them finishing in front of teams like Manchester United or [Manchester] City, or Chelsea. There’s just too big a difference between the squads. I respect that Arsenal don’t have the same financial opportunities as the others, but it was part of my decision to leave that I find it hard to see Arsenal winning the Premier League or Champions League in the near future.”

I hate when recently-transferred players start talking about their former club. Anti-Arsenal comments have been spewing from $amir Na$ri’s mouth since his move to Manchester City. I am finished devoting time and space to Na$ri, but I do have respect left for Fabregas.

Cesc, on Twitter, denied the interview with the magazine ever took place: “I want Arsenal to be succesfull as much as every single fan. Thats not why i left, it was never in my mind. AFC made me who i am today.”

He spent four total Twitter messages explaining the situation: “And nobody will ever change that. I never gave any interview away since my press conference at my presentation and there i just said…”

“…The truth and what came out of my heart. Great words abt this great football club cause that just what they deserve: succes and trophies.”

“People can h8 me 4 leaving or remember that i gave my all for the club. But me talking 1 bad word or saying smthng against AFC will not seen.” [sic]

The new trend in modern times is denying controversial comments on Twitter or some other platform. At least Cesc did not claim that he was “hacked” like Gary Cook.

Whether or not you believe the quotes are accurate, Cesc Fabregas was a fantastic servant for our club. Despite his lack of influence last season, I do not think Cesc wanted out of Arsenal more than he wanted a move to the Nou Camp.

There is a clause in Fabregas’ contract at Barcelona that would allow Arsenal a chance to buy him if Barca ever decide to sell him. Here is what he had to say about the clause (from the Daily Mail):

“It’s absolutely fine by me (that the clause was inserted into the contract). I enjoyed my time in Arsenal. I had some great years there. I developed as a player and as a person. I finished there as captain of the club and I will still follow the club and their results.

“I don’t know if it’s realistic that I would return one day. But maybe I said the same when I left Barca, so you never know. If that was the final thing Arsenal needed to agree on to let me go, then I’m satisfied.”

It is unclear if Cesc really made these comments. You can never tell anymore whether a player actually said something. Regardless, I doubt we will ever see Fabregas wearing the red and white again.

Arsenal sell Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona

Arsenal announced today that they have reached an agreement that will send Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona. Arsenal will net around £35m from the transfer.

The move will be completed once Fabregas passes a medical in Barcelona and signs his contract, along with the usual legal and registration processes.

According to The Telegraph, Barcelona say they will pay €14.5m right away, with another payment of  €14.5m in October. If Barcelona win two La Liga titles and one Champions League title in the next five years, €6m more will be given to Arsenal.

Arsenal must feel that Barcelona will accomplish these goals. Added all up, the offer could be worth £35m (€40m).

Cesc Fabregas has finally received his dream move to the Nou Camp. Here is what Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com after the announcement.

“We have been clear that we didn’t want Cesc to leave and that remains the case. However, we understand Cesc’s desire to move to his home town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona. We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success.”

Wenger surprised many on Friday, when he told the media: “I expect nobody to leave the club.” We now know that Arsene was lying to the fans and media during that much-anticipated press conference. Or maybe he just didn’t want to spark a panic.

The Gunners were not able to convince Barcelona to pay their asking price. It was believed that Wenger wanted £40m for his captain. The Camp Nou management remained stubborn and refused to pay that much for Fabregas.

In the end, Wenger was forced to sell Fabregas at a reduced price. Would Cesc have played another match in an Arsenal shirt? I think he would have sat out at least until the end of the transfer window. Wenger needs to use the initial payment to strengthen the team in the next couple of weeks.

Barcelona have a full day of activity scheduled for Fabregas tomorrow. First, he will complete his medicals. Then, Cesc is expected to sign a contract and have a photo session. Lastly, he will talk to the press. Will he say a goodbye to Arsenal and the Gooner supporters?

Cesc Fabregas has been a good servant to Arsenal Football Club, despite his lack of leadership as captain. In the last five years, no player in Europe has assisted on more goals than Fabregas. He is clearly an elite midfielder.

In 2003, Cesc decided to join Arsenal from Barcelona as a 16-year old. Fabregas became the Gunners’ youngest senior player (16 years, 177 days) and youngest senior player to score a goal (16 years, 212 days).

Cesc in his early years with Arsenal.

After Vieira left Highbury, Fabregas jumped at the opportunity to make an impact in the starting eleven. Cesc had his first real successful season during the first year at the Emirates. he racked up 16 assists in all competitions.

In the next season (2007-2008), Fabregas emerged as a goal-scoring threat. He scored 13 times in all competitions and gathered 22 assists. Cesc was named as the PFA Young Player of the Year.

After being named captain in 2008, Cesc had his best campaign with Arsenal during the 2009-2010. The Spanish midfielder scored 19 goals and assisted on 19 as well. It was a remarkable total that cemented Fabregas’ status as one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

While Cesc will be missed, it is time for Arsenal to move on. Fabregas was unable to lead the team to a trophy, and was certainly a part of the losing attitude at the Emirates. He had his sights set on Barcelona, and his time with Arsenal has finally ended.

Transfer Rumours: Cesc, Cahill, Jagielka

Pep Guardiola said yesterday that Barcelona are in “advanced” talks to sign Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal are ready to make a new push for Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill. Phil Jagielka is also still being pursued by the Gunners.

Pep Guardiola talked about Fabregas in a press conference: “Cesc is not here yet, but it [the deal] is very advanced.

“[Director of sport] Andoni Zubizarreta said there is still something missing, and so Fabregas is still an Arsenal player [for now] as he is not here.

“I don’t know if Cesc will arrive on Monday, the important thing is to think about our game in the Supercopa.”

Guardiola believes that the whole Cesc saga is a distraction to his club ahead of their Supercopa match against Real Madrid. On Friday, Guardiola halted Cesc while he was on his way to the airport. The Barcelona manager wants to hold off the Fabregas’ arrival until after Sunday’s match.

Even Guardiola thinks that Cesc is a distraction. This Fabregas drama needs to end for the good of both clubs involved. Barcelona’s behavior during all the negotiations was insulting. Wenger just needs to let Cesc go, and the constant questioning will stop.

According to The Mirror, Arsene Wenger is prepared to launch a new bid for Gary Cahill. The offer will be for £16.5m, as Wenger desperately wants to secure the Bolton centre-half. Arsenal scout Steve Rowley looked at Cahill in Bolton’s 4-0 win over QPR. Cahill scored from a long-distance curler, which must have pleased Rowley.

Adding the Bolton centre-back would do wonders for the squad. He is a young, English defender who is a threat in the air and, apparently, from outside the penatly area. The arrival of Cahill would do so much good for the mentality of the Arsenal supporters.

According to Daily Mail, Arsenal are set to make another bid for Phil Jagielka. The 28-year old Everton centre-back has been linked with a move to the Emirates all summer. Wenger has come to gripes with the departures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, and he may spend money strengthening Arsenal’s back four.

A source close to Jagielka told Daily Mail that he is “ambitious for Champions League football but sensible.” This means that the Everton centre-half will not force his way out of Goodison.

Transfer Rumours: Tevez, Nasri, Cesc

Arsenal could pull off the shock of the summer by swapping Samir Nasri for Carlos Tevez . Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola put the brakes on a Cesc Fabregas arrival on Friday.

According to The Sun, Arsene Wenger wants Manchester City to include Carlos Tevez in a deal for Samir Nasri. Arsenal would have to send Nasri plus cash to Man City for the disgruntled Argentina striker. This move could provide a major boost for panicking Arsenal supporters.

According to the report, Arsenal want to send Nasri and around £15m for Tevez, who is valued at £50m. Wenger thinks he can convince Mancini to offload the striker, who has been wanting out of Manchester.

Here is what a so-called ”Arsenal insider” told The Sun:  ”Tevez would be just the signing to give everyone a lift. There is a lot of work to be done yet but if there is a will on all sides it can happen.

“Nasri wants to get to City, Tevez wants to get out and Wenger needs a new star to get everyone off his back.

“It seems like win-win all round.”

If this surprising deal goes through, Arsenal may prove the critics wrong. Tevez is a real temperamental player, but he is without a doubt one of the best players in England. Pairing up Tevez and Van Persie would translate into some kind of video game-like fantasy.

According to The Sun, Arsenal will offer Tevez £200,000 per week in wages. This not believable, being as the Gunners were hesitant to offer Samir Nasri a little more than half of that.

According to The Telegraph, Pep Guardiola held up the Cesc Fabregas transfer by calling Cesc on his way to the airport. The Arsenal captain was ready to board a plane to Barcelona yesterday before he received a call from Pep Guardiola. The Barcelona manager wants Cesc to stay in London until after Barcelona’s match on Saturday against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Guardiola is worried that the arrival of Fabregas will distract his players away from the first El Clasico match of the season. Barcelona are expected to welcome Cesc home at the start of the week.

Wenger: No one is leaving Arsenal

In what can only be described as a strange press conference, Arsene Wenger said that neither Cesc Fabregas nor Samir Nasri would be leaving the club. He did say that both players will not be included in the squad to face Newcastle tomorrow.

Nasri has been to rumoured to be very close to a move to Manchester United. Cesc Fabregas is desperate to leave Arsenal to go home to play for Barcelona.

Many media outlets seemed to believe that this early morning press conference was to announce the depatures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Here is what Arsene Wenger said instead:

“I expect nobody to leave the club. At the moment there is no news. What we want today is to focus on the players who can help.

“[The transfer market is] Not as easy as people think it is. I’m not disappointed by Cesc’s attitude or Samir Nasri’s attitude.”

This is really very puzzling from Wenger. Does he think that we, the fans, are dumb? Or is he acting like everything is fine when the ship is sinking?

First off, making the statment “Nobody is going to leave the club” may come back to bite Wenger in the near future. The comments drew a lot of criticism and anger from Arsenal supporters on Twitter. If no one is going to leave the club, then why are Nasri and Fabregas not going to play tomorrow at St James’ Park. Wenger answered:

“He [Nasri] has had a sickness. No other issue … Cesc is not injured, he’s not match fit. I don’t want to go any deeper than that. ”

What in the world is going on here? Why does Wenger continue to make excuses for Cesc and Nasri? “He has had a sickness.” Next time, he will have to attend his brother’s birthday party. I am disappointed in Nasir and Cesc’s attitudes, even if the boss is not.

When asked about the possible sale of two stars, Wenger responded: “Manchester United sold Ronaldo. Does that mean they are not a big club? We want to have a fully committed squad on the pitch. What is important is that the players who play give 100%.

“At the moment we have too big a squad. We are not in a position where we are short of players.”

Yes, well, United have been claiming quite a bit of silverware recently. But it is the last comment that stung me the most. He is saying that he will not run out of players if he sells off two players. Wenger does not take into account that Nasri and Fabregas are quality players whereas Squillaci and Rosicky, well… not so much.

On the bright side, Robin van Persie will wear the armband in the season opener against Newcastle. The Dutchman has stayed loyal to the Gunners, and he deserves the captaincy over the Barca-crazed Cesc Fabregas, even if the Spaniard stays at the Emirates.

Continued speculation will surely continue throughout the day. Arsene Wenger did not show his cards, and, if his comments are to be believed, Nasri and Fabregas will be Gunners this season.

Check back tomorrow morning for a full preview of Arsenal’s match against Newcastle.

Wenger: Cesc and Nasri decisions soon

Arsene Wenger said that the Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri transfer sagas “will be sorted out very quickly.” The comments come after reports saying that both players are close to moves.

Throughout the past few summers, Cesc Fabregas has been pursued by Barcelona. Samir Nasri, who refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates, is looking to join the cash cows at City.

Here is what Wenger told Arsenal.com: “That is completely the truth. We hope it will be sorted out very quickly one way or the other. We’ll know very quickly.

“The Nasri situation is stable.

“Again, it is very difficult to speak about possible transfers, but we are in a situation where we have to make decisions one way or the other. Ideally you want it to be sorted out before the season starts.”

Wenger said that there is no official deal yet for either Cesc or Nasri.

According to The Guardian, Arsene Wenger has given up the possiblilty of keeping Fabregas and Nasri. Wenger told chief executive Ivan Gazidis to hurry the deals through in order to get on with the season. Arsenal are expected to use the money they get for both players (around £60m) to pursue several players before the end of the month.

The Gunners need to remove these two distractions. Let Fabregas go on his merry way to the Nou Camp. And let Nasri fill his pockets at Manchester City. We only want players who are committed to the Arsenal.

Arshavin to stay at Arsenal; worried about exits

Andrey Arshavin is “sure” that he will stay at Arsenal this season. The Russian said that losing Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri would be “enormous.”

Andrey Arshavin told Sport Express in Russia:

”I have already said that this season I am sure to be at Arsenal, and not somewhere else. If I ever return to Russia, then the priority option for me will be Zenit – but no-one can predict what will happen to you in the future, in a few years or even a season. As the saying goes: if you want to make God laugh – tell him about your plans for tomorrow.”

First off, Arshavin is quite a character, and we need more character in our side. He seems like the kind of guy who can loosen up a squad.

It is good to see that Arshavin will be staying with the Gunners. He is a top-quality winger when is his in good form. The problem is his consistency. Too often the little Russian falls off the pace of the match.

Andrey played an important role in last season’s finest moment. He scored the winner over Barcelona at the Emirates in the first leg of the Champions League knockout phase. Arsenal went down in the first half, but came roaring back in the second half with goals from RVP and Arshavin.

Arshavin provides depth off the bench for Wenger. If Arsenal are down a goal, Wenger can bring Arshavin on for a defensive player. When the little Russian is on his game, he can be a real goal threat.

Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are likely to leave Arsenal. Arshavin talked about the situation:

”The policy of our club [next season] is the same, but it is difficult to say anything specific now, not least from the fact that two leading players, Cesc and Samir, have not decided their future.

”The loss of any one of them would be enormous, and we naturally want to see Cesc and Samir play with us in the future – but if the player wants to leave the club… It is hard to say [whether they will stay].”

Losing either player is not enormous. Arsene Wenger dug Cesc Fabregas out of Barcelona because he recgonized his talent. Who says he cannot do the same? Wenger should chose to replace Fabregas from within the club. Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are ready to take over the midfield.

Nasri was a more established player when Arsenal bought him from Marseille. Wenger could buy Juan Mata or Eden Hazard as a replacement. With the money Arsenal get for Nasri and Fabregas, Wenger should be able to make big moves.

Arsenal set to finally sell Cesc

Reports say that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is very close to getting his dream move to Barcelona. Arsene Wenger is willing to accept less than his asking price.

According to just about every newspaper, Barcelona are centimetres away from signing Cesc. The reports initially came from Spanish media outlets saying that Arsenal were finally going to make a deal with Barcelona. Expect Fabregas at the Nou Camp by the end of the week.

The Guardian says the the Barcelona offer is £25.4m with possible addition payments of £5.3m. Also, with Fabregas ready to decline an Arsenal bonus of £4.4m, the offer could net Arsenal around £34.1m.

According to The Telegraph, Arsene Wenger is ready to back off of his £40m asking price and accept a bid of £35m. Everyone involved with Arsenal want the Cesc drama to end as soon as possible.

According to Daily Mail, “reliable Catalan sources” confirmed that an agreement will come soon. Arsene Wenger wants to move on and focus on the season.

So, how should we, Arsenal supporters, feel about this news? On one hand, the burden will finally be lifted. On the other hand, Wenger may have been bullied by Barcelona to lower his rating of Fabregas.

Once the official transfer is announced I will be relieved. This Barca situation has gone on for far too long. Cesc has been a poor captain of our club. It is time to move on with the squad.

Reports are also confirming that Nasri is close to a move to Manchester City. If both players leave this week, Arsene Wenger will find himself with a lot of cash to spend. Hopefully, Wenger will first spend the money to improve our back four. Then, he can look for replacements for Nasri and Cesc.

Chamakh: Cesc and Nasri will leave Arsenal

Marouane Chamakh talked yesterday about the futures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Chamakh finds the Nasri saga “strange.”

Here is what Chamakh told L’Equipe: “I think both of them (Fabregas and Nasri) are likely leaving the club. It’s a difficult situation for the manager.

“I don’t think it’s a matter of money for Fabregas or Samir. I think he [Wenger] is looking for their successors and he hasn’t found them. I think before letting them go he wants to find the players to replace them.”

Of course Wenger wants to line up replacements before he sells two key parts to last season’s squad. The Nasri saga seems to be about money and nothing else. Manchester City are not the most successful club, but they do provide a player with a lot of cash. If Nasri was interested in silverware, he would not abandon Arsenal for City.

Chamakh continued: “That’s my opinion about the situation. The problem is the season starts this weekend, and it’s even more difficult for us.

“I think in the situation the club was in, they could have let only one leave. Especially Cesc, he wants to leave for several seasons because he’s born in Barcelona. But Samir is now in a situation where he has one year left on his contract, so if they don’t sell him this summer he will leave for free at the end of the season.”

It is extremely obvious that Fabregas wants to go to the Nou Camp, but the whole situation could have been handled better. Cesc has basically kept quiet and not committed either way, which keeps the entire club hostage. The whole Fabregas drama has been very taxing for the fans and the players.

Chamakh also confirmed what many reports have said. Samir Nasri is not willing to sign a long term deal at the Emirates. If Wenger does not sell him now, Nasri will skip away for free.

Chamakh went on: “Is the club ready to refuse a little bit more than €20 million to keep a good player for one season? It’s strange, at a club like Arsenal, that he’s now with one year left on his contract, that the club couldn’t make him sign a new contract before.”

It is a very depressing for Gooners that Nasri is refusing to stay at the club. Nasri is still in the peak of his career, and he is using Arsenal as a stepping stone to what he considers bigger and better things. Apparently, the French midfielder was angered at the pace of the negotiations and decided to break off contract talks all together. We should still wait until Nasri leaves to insult him, so hold on to the Twitter attacks for the time being.
